How Long Are Poker Games

  • If you are a professional poker player then your poker session can be anywhere between 2 and 8 hours. You should also take several short breaks during your poker session. But the right poker session length for you might be different. It depends on what games you play, how many poker tables and how good your concentration is among other things.
  • However, if these people don't have any special interest in poker, anywhere from 2 to 3 hours has been my experience before people lose interest, have to leave, etc. Also, if they are new to poker.

Adderall? Ritalin? Coffee? Energy drinks? Not necessary. All of these habits have potentially long-term harmful side effects and who the h-e-double hockey sticks want those?! When it comes to sitting in one place and playing the game of poker for a long period of time, there are a few guidelines that I like to follow in order to ensure these bad habits die hard, and maybe even with a vengeance! If just one of these guidelines is ignored, a disaster will most likely follow, and you will not be able to stay focused for very long.

Turn Off Your Cellphone

In a game full of missing information you would assume that most people pay as much attention as possible and try their hardest to get this info, right? Wrong! Most people don’t really give a hootenanny what is going on at the table in front of them! The reason for this? The almighty cell phone. They’re texting mommy, they’re taking selfies, they’re ordering fidget spinners online, and what they’re missing is invaluable.

The Sequel to Poker Night at the Inventory, this time the cast features the dog detective Sam from the Sam & Max franchise, The Swedish Murder Machine Brock Samson from The Venture Bros; The Groovy King of Deadite Slaying Ash Williams from The Evil Dead franchise and The Robotic Annoyance Claptrap from the Borderlands series.

Let’s rewind the clock back to 2 weeks ago to a 600$ poker tournament at the Wynn casino that I played in. There was a guy to my left who insisted on folding with a weak hand before it was his turn to act if the person he was up against even slightly touched their chips. This made it extremely easy to see when he did not like his hand, and also made it extremely obvious when he was going to fold to a bet if I made one. Anyone who was staring at a cell phone all day would have missed this and been at quite a disadvantage compared to me.

Try To Guess What Each Player Has Before Every Showdown

This is something that most people simply do not do. Like showering, except this is not as smelly of a situation. Oh and by the way, a showdown is when someone shows their cards at the end of a poker hand against somebody else, and then the chips are shipped to the player with the best hand.

I like to try and figure out the range of hands these people could have before they show their cards by using their past actions and body language to narrow it down. This is useful because if you were way off on what you thought they could have it burns a mental image in your head of what type of player they are. It also keeps your mind busy and focused on the game.

Most people’s minds are always wandering when they are not in the hand even though there is so much money-printing information to be gathered right in front of them. If I gave you a treasure map that led to a money printer would you focus and try to find it? I thought so!

Stare at Every Person That Walks By

Just kidding, I was checking if you are paying attention still. In reality what you should be doing is ignoring all of the people that walk past the table and looking at what’s going on in the current hand. There could be thousands of people walking by throughout the day, depending on where you are playing, which opens the door for thousands of potential distractions!

Not only do you avoid those distracting conversations with friends that walk by, but you also pay more attention to the hands that you are not a part of which, as I discussed earlier, is free money. Getting up to talk to someone is even worse because then you miss the hands AND the table talk that was going down, and you might as well start heading to the nearest toilet with your wallet.

Go Running Before You Play

Not much feels better than waking up and going for a run before you start your day. You finish feeling a little bit tired, but then after a shower, you feel like a new man. The natural chemicals that the brain produces after daily exercise really lightens your mood and makes you feel amazing.

With poker, it is extremely beneficial since there have been many studies done in the last 30 years to prove that there is a link between aerobic exercise and mental clarity. I don’t know about you, but if I plan on doing something mentally for hours and hours, I want mental clarity and to be in a good mood.

Another good reason for a pregame run is to get your heart pumping and get your body some exercise before it just sits around all day getting fat. Poker players face this obesity problem quite often, and do nothing about it quite often.

Make Musical Playlists

I say “playlists” plural because you should have at least 2 in my opinion. One should be for the pregame running workout, and one should be for your poker session. Music has always been a good way for me to get in the zone and I highly recommend trying it while playing. However, you probably should not listen to the music too loud at the tables, or you might miss out on free information people are giving out about what hand they had in a certain spot or what they do for a living.

I think putting things like rap (please, not any mumble rap) and motivational music into the running playlist is a good idea. This will give you an extra boost for your run and also give you some contrast to the poker playlist that you will listen to all day.

The poker playlist should have songs with little to no words involved because words sometimes interrupt your thought patterns in my experience. Some good types of music for this are electronic or techno music, as well as classical music.

Whatever you choose make sure it is music that you enjoy because that will make the time go by faster and make the longer sessions seem easier. Making these playlists also saves you the time of shuffling through your whole library of songs to find what you like while you are playing when you could be paying attention to the table.

To Wrap It Up

After 12 years of experience, I have decided to share my secrets to focusing well during long sessions of poker. If you follow the above steps, you should improve your hourly income for long sessions in a huge way and then you will see the power of paying full attention. With these changes, you can then move up in stakes faster and be a stronger player than you were before.

What is Strip Poker?

Strip poker is a special type of poker where you lose clothing items instead of money. This means that the losers (the people with the weakest poker hand) have to take off an item of clothing. Strip poker is less about strategy and technique and more about fun and eroticism. Of course, you have to master the basic rules of poker. These we will explain later.

There are different ways to play strip poker. You can play with poker chips or use your clothes as a bet. In this article, we will introduce you to different variants of strip poker.

How to play Strip Poker

There are various gaming versions on how to play strip poker. 5 Card Draw, Stud or Hold’em Texas are popular variants for playing strip poker.

To play strip poker, everyone should know the basic rules of poker beforehand. For all newbies who have never played poker before, we’ve created a crash course for 5 Card Draw Poker.

If you are already familiar with the poker rules, you can jump directly to the next chapter, where the rules of strip poker are explained.

5 Card Draw - Basic Rules

Five Card Draw is one of the oldest versions of poker. All of today’s game variants of poker have evolved from the “5 Card Draw” version. To play you need:

  • 2-7 people
  • A standard deck of 52 cards
  • Poker chips (or something else that you can bet with)

Step 1: Each player starts with the same amount of chips (given by the dealer). Then each person puts at least one chip into the pot as a stake. The pot is the area in the middle of the table where all chips are placed. The minimum bet is set in advance.

You can play with money, but you don’t have to. Poker is fun without real money too.

Step 2: Each player gets five hand cards. These are dealt out by the “dealer” (the dealer is determined before playing).

Step 3: After each player has looked at his hand cards, the betting round begins. The dealer may first announce his bet. When it is your turn, you can choose from one of the three options:

  1. Call - You match an existing bet. Example: The person before you has increased the bet by 2 poker chips. You match the raise and also bet two poker chips.
  2. Raise - You increase the bet. Example: The person before you put 2 poker chips in the pot. You raise the bet and put 3 poker chips in the pot. The person after you must then place a bet of at least 3 poker chips.
  3. Fold - You discard your hand cards (because of very weak hand cards). You are therefore eliminated for this round and no longer have the opportunity to win the pot.

There are two ways to win the pot:

  1. You are the only person who didn’t fold.
  2. You have the highest poker hand.

Step 4: At the end of the betting round, each player discards up to 3 hand cards. The dealer gives each player as many new cards from the deck as he/she discarded. Then everyone looks at their hand cards one more time. Then the last round of betting starts. The rules are the same as mentioned before.

Step 5: When all players have made their bets (or have folded), the cards are revealed. The highest poker hand wins the pot (all chips in the middle).

Poker Hand - Ranking

Poker Games How To Play

The person with the best hand (the highest card value or the best combination of cards) wins the poker chips in the middle. Here you can find a ranking list of card combinations (1 = highest):

  1. Royal Flush (straight flush with an ace)
Example: 10-J-Q-K-A (all cards are the same suit)
  2. Straight Flush (5 cards of the same suit in ascending order)
    Example: Heart 3 - Heart 4 - Heart 5 - Heart 6 - Heart 7
  3. 4-of-a-kind (4 cards of the same value and one different card)
    Example: 5-7-7-7-7
  4. Full House (3 cards of the same value and a pair)
    Example: 10-10-10-J-J
  5. Flush (5 cards of the same suit, e.g. hearts)
  6. Straight (5 cards in ascending order)
    Example: 7-8-9-10-J
  7. 3-of-a-kind (3 cards of the same value and 2 different cards that are not a pair)
    Example: 6-9-10-10-10
  8. 2 Pairs (2 pairs, 1 card of your choice)
    Example: 7-8-8-4-4
  9. Pair (3 different cards, and 2 cards with the same value)
    Example: 2-K-8-4-4
  10. High Card (a card of high value)

Card Ranking (high to low): Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, (Ace)

At the end of each round, the dealer collects the cards and shuffles them for the next round. The game continues until only one person has chips. In other words, if you run out of chips, you are eliminated from the game.

Strip Poker Rules

The rules are simple and can be modified. Whatever variant of strip poker you play, the basic rule is the same:

The person with the weakest poker hand loses and has to take off an item of clothing .

Are

Before playing, decide how far you want to go. One possibility is that you only have to strip down to your underwear.

Strip Poker Special Rules

If you want to spice up your game, you can find alternative strip poker rules here.

  1. Strip or Drink: The person with the weakest poker hand can choose between taking off an item of clothing or taking a shot (with an alcoholic drink in it).
  2. All for One: All losers of the round must take off an item of clothing. So only the winner (the person with the best hand) doesn’t have to take off an item of clothing.
  3. Drunk Winner: The person with the weakest hand must take off an item of clothing and the person with the best hand has to take a shot.
  4. Drunk Loser: The first person to be naked (or who only wears underwear) has to take a shot for each round lost.
  5. Striptease: Instead of simply taking off your clothing, you have to perform a little striptease for your fellow players. That means you have to take off your item of clothing in a lascivious way.
  6. Strip or Dare: The loser of the round can save himself from taking off an item of clothing by completing a task. If you agree on this version of strip poker, you should first write a few punishment tasks on pieces of paper and put them in a box. Then you don’t have to come up with anything later. The loser then simply draws a note out of the box.
  7. The winner decides: Another option is to let the winner of the round decide who has to take off an item of clothing.
  8. Win your clothes back: The person with the best hand is allowed to put one item of clothing back on. If you choose to play this strip poker variant, you have to be aware that the game will last much longer than usual.

Different formats for Strip Poker Game

You can decide for yourself how long your game should last. There are different game formats of strip poker with different playtimes. Slow or fast - Either way, strip poker is always fun. We introduce you to three versions: A fast, medium-paced, and slow strip poker.

Fast Strip Poker: All for One

In the fast-paced (also most popular) version of strip poker, not only does the person with the worst hand have to take off an item of clothing, but also all other losers of the round. This means that only the winner of the round can keep his clothes on. The first person to be completely naked has lost.

Medium-paced Strip Poker

The person with the weakest poker hand has to take off an item of clothing. If you would like to play a little bit longer, then you will like this game variant. Here only the person with the weakest poker hand has to take off an item of clothing. As usual, the first person to be completely undressed has lost.

Slow Strip Poker: Texas Hold’em Strip Poker

Texas Hold’em Strip Poker is an exciting game that lasts longer. On average, you play around 15 minutes until an item of clothing is removed. Unlike Texas Hold’em, Draw 5 is a bit easier because it is more luck-based. In any case, it is also possible for beginners to learn the rules. In the following, we explain the basic rules for Texas Hold’em Strip Poker.

Texas Hold’em Strip Poker

Texas Hold’em is another poker format that is also suitable for strip poker. In contrast to Draw 5 Poker, Texas Holdem Poker has 4 betting rounds. After the fourth round of betting the cards are revealed. This is why you lose clothes at a slower pace in this strip poker variant.

We have already explained the rules for strip poker in detail before. These don’t change for Texas Hold’em Strip Poker either. What is changing are the poker rules. Here is a step-by-step guide to Texas Hold’em Poker:

Step 1: The Blinds

Before the game begins, the dealer gets determined. The tasks of the dealer are dealing out cards and managing the pot. Each round, a different person is the dealer (in clockwise order). The two players to the left of the dealer must make a blind bet. It is called blind because the cards have not yet been dealt out. The first player makes a small blind, the second a big blind. The amount of the blind bet is determined in advance.

  • Small Blind = minimum bet
  • Big Blind = twice as high as the small blind

Step 2: The cards get dealt out (1st betting round)

First, each player receives two cards from the dealer.

Later the dealer places five additional community cards face-up on the table. First three cards, then one, and then another one. They are called community cards because all players can add these cards to their hand cards (in thought).

Then the first betting round begins. Depending on how good your cards are, you can bet as many chips (or money) as you want. When it is your turn you have the options to call, raise, or fold. We have already explained what exactly the three options mean in the 5 Card Draw Poker Guide.

Step 3: Flop (2nd betting round)

The first three community cards (flop) are placed face-up on the table by the dealer. These cards belong to every player, so to speak. They complement the hand cards and anyone can (mentally) use them to form their poker hand (the community cards always remain on the table). Then the second round of betting begins.

How Long Are Poker Games Played

Step 4: Turn (3rd betting round)

Now the fourth card (turn) is added face up to the three community cards. The process remains the same as with the “flop”. The third betting round begins.

Step 5: River (4th betting round)

The last community card is placed face up on the table and the last round of betting begins.

Step 6: Showdown

Everyone who is still in the game now reveals their poker hand. The person with the best hand wins the pot.

Tips for Strip Poker

Here are a few tips to make strip poker enjoyable for everyone.

1. Learn the Basics of Poker - For strip poker to be fun, everyone should understand the basic rules of poker. It’s best to do a practice round first. If you have no idea about poker, strip poker can be very tedious.

2. Set limits - Agree beforehand how far you want to go. If there are people who do not want to strip naked, then respect their decision. You can also specify that you only have to strip down to your underwear.

3. Wear the right clothes - At Strip Poker it makes sense to wear several layers of clothing, for example, an undershirt, socks, a scarf, a hat, etc. Otherwise, the game ends very quickly. Everyone should wear the same number of items of clothing so that it is a fair game.

4. Prepare a couple of drinks - A little alcohol won’t hurt, but it’s not a must. It definitely creates a relaxed atmosphere.

Online Strip Poker Game

Strip poker can also be played online. Online strip poker providers (such as Racy Rivals) definitely target straight men. The difference to regular poker is that you also see a (recorded) video of a woman. You play against computer opponents. Whenever the computer loses, the woman in the video takes off an item of clothing. If you lose, you can choose if you want to undress or not. After all, nobody sees you. In my opinion, real strip poker is definitely more fun. But it is a good alternative for practicing.

Strip Poker for Couples

Do you already have plans for your next date night with your partner? Strip poker is perfect for a hot date with your partner. The rules are exactly the same as in regular strip poker. However, lovers have probably seen each other naked hundreds of times. Where’s the thrill? There are a few tips and tricks that can be used to make strip poker an exciting experience for couples:

  • Create an erotic atmosphere - The environment is one of the most important things to get in the mood. Create a relaxed atmosphere with music, two glasses of wine, dimmed lights, or other things.
  • Put on a sexy outfit - Even if the game is about getting naked, it is important to wear a hot outfit. And that should ideally consist of several layers. Otherwise, the game is over quickly. Surprise your partner with your hottest lingerie.
  • Don’t forget to flirt - If you lose an item of clothing, don’t just take it off, but make it seductive. For example, you can give your partner a striptease or a lap dance afterward.

If you follow all of these three tips, I guarantee that the game will end in good sex.

How Long Are Poker Games Online

Strip Poker Night at the Inventory is a free online strip poker game where you can create your own fictional character. You can choose the gender (even breast and penis size 😄) and your outfit. You can also freely choose your (computer) opponents or fellow players. It’s not as exciting as strip poker with real people, of course, but it’s definitely good practice!
